Airfield Open Day

The Ulster Flying Club warmly invites you to our annual open day and summer fly in at Newtownards Airfield on Sunday 23rd July 2017.

Fun for all the family and the perfect introduction to aviation for any budding pilot. It's the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with our fleet of training aircraft or even take to the skies with trial flights available on the day!

Doors open from 10am until 4pm with free entry and ample car parking!

The Ulster Flying Club will be running their annual summer fly in with aircraft visiting from all around the UK & Ireland. Members of the public will be welcome to walk around a static aircraft display, or take part with a trial lesson in one of the club's Cessna C172 aircraft. Information is available from our instructors or members for those who wish to obtain a pilot's licence.

Trial Lessons Available
£55.00 - 15 minutes for 3 people (A quick tour of Newtownards)
£99.00 - 30 minutes for 3 people (Fly around the Ards Peninsula or over Belfast City)

Static Aircraft Display
The Public will be able to walk around parked aircraft on our ramp. 
FREE - Sit at the controls of our Cessna 152 and Cessna 172
FREE - See a variety of home built aircraft

Cloud 9 Restaurant will be providing a great selection of food throughout the day. There is no need to book and plenty of seating available indoor & outdoor. The will be other catering options available on the day including Burgers and chips, southern fried chicken, ice cream, and dinky donuts!


HeliPower will be providing trial lessons in their helicopters with information available for those who wish to obtain a helicopter pilot licence.

The Ulster Aviation Society are an active group of aviation enthusiasts covering many aspects of aviation related activities. They will be providing a static display with information on their hangar and details of the work they do.


The Bangor Electric Flying Club will be providing a static model display throughout the day with an air display planned around lunchtime (12pm - 1pm).

The Air Training Corps 825 Bangor Squadron will be presenting their Hunter Cockpit and information on cadet recruitment

Hunter Cockpit
The Cadets will allow the public to climb in to their hunter and will explain the flight controls of the aircraft.

New Cadets
The 825 Squadron recruit cadets from 12-18 years of age. You will have the chance to meet some of their current cadets.
