I believe the GBNKR needs a new engine so will be unavailable for some time.
we pay far too much to rent this aircraft per year
we could buy our own and pay it off in under 2 years

The first hit i saw on av buyers was this one ( there must be loads out their)
Cessna 152
Price:£22,000 no VAT
Year:1978
TTAF:7800
S/N:15283626
Fresh Annual & All A/Ds complied with Approximately 120 hrs SMOH engine and new propeller. Avionics: Cessna 300 series NavCom and mode C transponder The aircraft has good clean paintwork and a recent new interior, seats and carpets. Reason for sale - owner has finished hours building. Based at Panshanger nr London

Does anyone think we should buy our own 2 seat trainer
renting is a waste of money
it's bound to be

I had no idea we rented KR
although a quick look on ginfo http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?c ... gmark=BNKR
Back in the mid 90s when I was working for a certain company we were compelled to rent rather than purchase a piece of equipment which had a price tag in the 6-figure bracket, the rental cost for the anticipated 6 month trial was about two thirds of the purchase price. The trial ended up taking 18 months and we paid for the equipment twice over, with nothing to show for it.
Dunno how it works in aviation, but in other areas renting is certainly a rip off.

Yes it would be nice if someone from the club would explain the logic on renting.

I know that there is a service element to the rental price the full details of which I'm not exactly sure
I.e. how much does our rental price contribute to the servicing of the aircraft?

I'm sure the new engine wasn't cheap but we are not incuring a higher rental price for that.

So I've got to ask the obvious question: if we rent the aircraft why has the hourly rate went up? I presume then that the hourly rate increase has nothing to do with the new engine as I'm assuming that Woodgates (or whomever we rent it from) have absorbed that cost. Or has our rent went up?

I guess since there is also an increase in the rate of the 172 that this is just an across the board price hike.
